SKIP (Site-Specific, Kids’ Interactive Plays)

In 2008, Making Books Sing began shaping a new program for children ages 4-7.  As with all our work, the program would immerse children in wonderful books, live theatre and hands-on experience.  We named the program SKIP – first, as an acronym for Site-Specific, Kids’ Interactive Plays.  Second, as a description for how the plays would “skip around” from site to site and third, as a way of representing children’s natural affinity for playing and moving (constantly in some cases).

In tandem with our first two SKIP productions (Museum Trip and The Storyteller’s Candle) SKIP’s Education Program places theatre artists in early childhood classrooms to:

•    Build on children’s natural affinity for creative play, exploration, discovery and wonderment
•    Foster positive associations with literature and early literacy skills
•    Enable children to interact with literature, each other, artists and their environment
