LAF (Literature, Arts and Families) Together
Make illustrations leap off the page. Write songs based on a favorite book. Imagine the world of your favorite literary characters. These fun-filled, 90-minute workshops bring families together to make drama, music and art based on books and to just LAF.
In 2003, Making Books Sing launched LAF Together, a program intended to bring parents and children together to create theater, music and art based on quality children’s literature. Initially held only in schools, today LAF Together can also be found in non-traditional educational environments, such as theatres and street festivals, where theatre, music and literature can unite families in shared learning and creativity.
To date, LAF has helped thousands of families benefit from the joys of reading and art-making in order to:
• Nurture powerful connections between parents and children.
• Reinforce the essential role of imaginative or creative play in childhood development.
• Promote shared reading as an act of the imagination filled with wonder and joy.
• Engage parents in their children’s education through and in the arts.
