"The program structure--with artists and composers coming to our school, teaching our students, motivating them to participate and create our play's dialogue, music and movement--is something that needs to be applauded."

Classroom Teacher, Junior High School 56

To date, Making Books Sing has served more than 27,000 students and teachers, Pre-K to 9 th grade, with our singular School Programs. Our School Programs immerse general education, English language learners and special learners in the study of books through live musical theatre performance and hands-on drama, playwritingand music activities.

Students learn about literature, language arts, the performing arts, diverse cultures, the creative process and themselves. Our School Programs are directly connected to the core curriculum, and address the New York State Learning Standards for Performing Arts, Language Arts and Social Studies. We place a premium on developing in-depth, meaningful partnerships with schools, teachers and students.

Every child begins their creative journey with Making Books Sing by attending our fully-staged musical productions , based on outstanding contemporary children's books. Schooltime Performances are offered in professional theatre settings in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx. We offer a range of curriculum-based enrichment activities that deepen the impact of our productions on student learning. These include Artist Residencies, Educational Materials, Professional Development Workshops and Parent-Child Programs.
