WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES

Making Books Sing is committed to educating and inspiring New York City’s diverse community of students, teachers and parents, particularly English language learners and students with special needs. Your donation or sponsorship helps us fund the following programs:

EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Making Books Sing offers two arts education programs, the literacy-based Literature at Play and our anti-bullying initiative Alice’s Story.

In Literature at Play, teaching artists lead K-6th grade classes through acting, playwriting and songwriting workshops, resulting in each class’ adaptation of a children’s book.
Learn more about Literature at Play.

Alice’s Story is a performance and workshop, where children function as audience members, critical thinkers and performers as actor-educators empower them to be agents of positive change.

.

Donations to either of these two programs cover subsidized fees for needy schools, teaching artist salaries and cost of supplies.

DISCOUNT THEATER TICKETS FOR SCHOOLS

To ensure as many students have access to our high-quality family theater as possible, Making Books Sing provides discount tickets to all students and teachers attending daytime performances.

Donations to our discount ticket program will keep our shows affordable for schools without sacrificing quality.

NEW PLAY DEVELOPMENT

Making Books Sing commissions at least two new shows a year for young audiences, collaborating with highly talented theater artists. New plays often have a social or historical issue as their subject matter, and go through the same rigorous development process as they would at theaters that mainly serve adults. Our shows have consistently earned excellent reviews from The New York Times, Backstage, Time Out New York Kids and more.

Donations to new play development will support artist commissioning and design fees, actor salaries, rehearsal and production costs, advertising and other expenses related to putting up a show.
